Majority-to-minority transfer students who are currently attending a school under a majority-to-minority transfer may remain in their currently assigned school.
For new students requesting majority-to-minority transfers, we will use the projected racial balance numbers on Proposal C to determine if the student can be accepted into a school on a majority-to-minority transfer. The sibling rule will NOT apply for majority-to-minority transfer requests. Projected numbers will change with each transfer request, once a school's racial balance is shifted, transfers will no longer be approved.
Parent/Legal guardian transfer students will be allowed to remain in schools where the child's parent works, except in schools that are ‘pure' magnet schools. i.e. Parkview Montessori & Madison Academic. If the parent transfers schools and wants the student to change schools as well, the parent must complete a new Parent/Legal Guardian transfer form for the student.
No transportation will be provided for magnet students. If students are zoned for a magnet school, transportation will be provided to the school.
All students will need to re-register for their zoned school for 2010-2011. Parents will be expected to provide proofs of residence.
Sibling rules will apply for magnet school programs. Sibling rules will NOT apply for students in the pre-k programs.
Kindergarten or students entering the system for the first time will be required to provide:
1) Tennessee School Entry Physical
2) Child’s Birth Certificate
3) Tennessee Certificate of Immunization
4) Child’s Social Security Card
5) Three Proofs of Legal Residence
For additional information, contact Kim Butler, Magnet School Registration Coordinator, at 664-2532 or your assigned school.
Student dress code will be in effect on the first day of school for grades pre-k through 12.
Registration Instructions/Medical Requirements
Parents should go to their child’s zoned school for all the necessary paperwork, such as a registration card and a parent questionnaire listing emergency numbers. Parents need to take their child’s certified birth certificate and social security number. They must also present three (3) proofs of legal residence, such as driver’s license, tax notification or statement (i.e. utility bill) that shows their legal address. Parents must sign a declaration of legal residence at the time of registration.
Each student registering must have a physical before starting school. The Tennessee school entry medical and certificate of immunization form is available at the physician’s office. Ask the physician to do hearing and vision screenings. The Madison County Health Department can assist with immunizations. The 2nd MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) immunization is required for Kindergarten, 4th, 8th and 12th grades. If you have questions about registration contact the attendance supervisor at 731-664-2570.
Home School Registration
