Fine Arts is defined in the Encarta Dictionary as being, “any art form, for example, painting, sculpture, architecture, drawing, or engraving, that is considered to have purely aesthetic value” (Encarta, 2004). Bennett (1987) stated it is important to train students to know, love, and respond to the products of the human spirit in music, dance, drama, and visual arts. In Jackson Madison County Schools, we have the same belief. We proudly offer the following in our Fine Arts Program:
Art History
Dance
General Music
Instrumental Music
Music History
Music Theory
Theatre Arts
Visual Arts
Vocal Music
Why Teach Fine Arts?
Studies have shown that involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. At Jackson Madison County Schools, we are committed to educating its students and fostering an appreciation of the arts.
