Two principal appointments for the 2009-2010 school year

Next year Mr. Ricky Catlett, current principal of South Elementary, will become the principal of West Middle School. Mr. Catlett has secondary, higher ed and elementary experience and I am confident he will be an excellent fit for the staff, students and families of West Middle School. He will bring wonderful talents and energy to West Middle School!

Ms. Jan Watson will be the principal at North Side High School next year. Ms. Watson was assigned to be the interim principal when Mr. Buddy White came into the central office and has done an excellent job. The staff at North Side, administrators, teachers and support, have kept achievement and graduation rate at a high level. Congratulations Ms. Watson!

Dr. June Murry will be the principal at Liberty High School next year. Dr. Murry has served as an assistant principal at Liberty for a number of years and this year has also assisted with curriculum support at Madison High School. She and the rest of the Liberty administrative team, the Liberty faculty and other staff members have worked hard to address a graduation rate issue and are seeing significant, consistent improvement in that area. Congratulations Dr. Murry!

Eric Jones will serve as principal of JCM
for the 2009-2010 school year

It is my pleasure this afternoon to announce that Mr. Eric Jones, current interim principal at Liberty High School, will serve as principal of Jackson Central-Merry High School (JCM) for the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Jones was formerly an assistant principal at Liberty High School.

Mr. Jones has worked with the Liberty staff for several years to address some of the same sorts of challenges facing JCM and they are seeing significant success. I am confident that he can bring to JCM some of those same strategies.

Mr. Jones is well respected by staff and students and I know he will do a superb job at JCM.

Thank you for your commitment to your students! I hope you can find time to rest this weekend. I would also love to see you at the Jumpstart Jackson walk at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning at the fairgrounds. The weather is supposed to be wonderful!
