For the past six years, in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, students at Jackson Central-Merry High School have not consistently met academic federal benchmarks in English, language arts and the target graduation rates. As a result, the current status of JCM is Restructuring I as defined in Tennessee State Law. There have been State Department of Education Consultants and Exemplary Educators in that school for three years.
The district after reviewing the relevant data for a three year period, has elected to provide the school a Fresh Start.
On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, Dr. Nancy Zambito informed the principal and staff at Jackson Central-Merry High School of the decision to reconstitute the school through the Fresh Start process.
A stipulation of this reconstitution requires that all certified staff, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals and clerical staff at JCM reapply or request a transfer to other schools. A new principal will also be assigned very soon. An application process has been established and shared with current JCM staff. Other interested candidates should contact the Jackson Madison County School’s Human Resource Department at 664-2587.
The objective of this Fresh Start is to assist students in reaching the required federal benchmarks. We recognize that Mrs. Crump and the current staff have worked very hard. We must increase JCM’s graduation rate and the academic achievement of its students; both of which remain largely below federal benchmarks.
