Schools honor veterans with Veteran's Day Celebrations

Many schools across the Jackson-Madison County School District held special ceremonies to honor veterans during the week of Veteran's Day.  Some schools held assemblies, while others had more intimate ceremonies and had veterans to come and participate as speakers or as guests of honor.  Whatever the celebration, Jackson-Madison County School System wishes a Happy Veteran's Day Celebration to our many honored veterans that live in our community and to the many soldiers who are still currently serving in active duty.  Many of our employees are honored servicemen and we acknowledge, honor and appreciate your great service to our country.

The Tigrett Social Studies Club hosted a Veteran's Day Cafe' for it's honorees and guest speakers.  Some of the guest speakers of the day were Melvin Roberts, Charles Jackson, Kenneth Deberry, Billly Tynes, Lance Corporal Kevin Ross, Gary Hampton, Lawrence Gregory, Tony Hines, and Willie Campbell, just to name a few.  The speakers covered all branches of military service and many had served during many terms of service.  Some went into the military during Vietnam and came out during Desert Storm.  There were some that had been stationed in Iraq, Korea, Australia, Panama, Germany, Belgium, the Mohave Desert, Iran, Liberia and the list goes on...

At Alexander Elementary School, Lt. Colonel Oden, who has a child in Pre-k at Alexander was the guest speaker.  Lt. Colonel Oden showed the students the various military uniforms and talked about each branch of military service and also had some military personnel show how to properly handle and fold the United States Flag.  She told the students the difference in a civilian salute to the flag and the military personnel salute to the United States Flag.  Her presentation was very informative.  The first grade classes at Alexander sang a beautiful song as a tribute to all of our veterans.

Again, we acknowledge, appreciate and honor all of our military personnel who give so much!

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!!!
