It is the goal of the Jackson-Madison County Schools to provide an environment for all students that is conducive to learning, and one in which a feeling of safety is provided for all students, faculty, and staff. An Emergency Situation Response Manual is provided for all administrators, faculty and staff members of each school that addresses action steps in the event of the following situations:
hostage situation
unwanted intruder
off-campus emergency
death/suicide
chemical/toxic fume
earthquake
tornado
student runaway or abduction
weapon
student disturbance
bomb threat/explosion
crime reporting
fire
exposure control - bloodborne pathogens
post-crisis response plan
In addition to the manuals, each school is required to establish a crisis response team that is responsible for developing specific strategies for conducting the action steps of the manual in the event of a crisis. These team members are to meet on a regular basis and address current issues of safety. CPR training is provided for the team members through the Jackson-Madison County Health Department.
The Jackson-Madison County School System takes proactive steps in providing a safe environment for learning by installing and using equipment that enhances the safety of each school. Programs are included in the curriculum that promote both prevention and intervention as methods of addressing safety issues. These programs are included at the elementary level as well as the secondary.
