Jackson-Madison County School System

1. There are approximately 5,000 computers and 30 servers on our network.
2. We have extremely fast connections (100mb) to all 28 schools in our district provided by JEA's fiber connections.
3. Every computer in the entire district uses the internet connection at the Board of Education office, which is currently at 50mb. We have 1 firewall that allows us to provide a secure connection to each computer in the district.
4. We still have multiple operating systems on our computers including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
5. We have many computers that are well over 10 years old and still functional in many classrooms.
6. We have 8 employees that work in the Technology department. We utilize an online help desk to keep track of our Technology work orders.
7. We provide email addresses for over 1,500 teachers and administrators.
8. We receive over 2,500,000 emails per month.
9. We are currently seeking funding to start a wireless initiative which will allow wireless connections to our network from all of our schools.
10. We have implemented a district wide Library system that will standardize all libraries in all schools. A student will be completely familiar with the same library software as they progress through each grade level.
11. The technology department is currently active on many projects which include a centralized management system, removing Novell completely from our network, and migrating to a Windows 2008 domain for all teachers and students.
12. We have upgraded all staff email accounts to Exchange 2007, and are considering using named student accounts for email access at the High School level.
