Welcome to Thelma Barker!
Here at Thelma Barker Elementary, we are home to a diverse student population. We have one of the largest ESL student populations in the district. Because of our diversity, we take time to celebrate our students' cultural heritages and backgrounds.
Our students are the heart of our school and drive the decisions we make on a daily basis. We have a phenomenal team of teachers at Barker, including teachers certified in K-5th grade as well as Special Education, library, music, art, P.E., and English as a Second Language (ESL). In addition to our teachers, our support staff work hard to support the success of our students every day.
Preparation for the 2019-2020 school year has begun as online applications for open enrollment and magnet programs in the Jackson-Madison County School System are now available.
Two Thelma Barker teachers join a worldwide host of educators participating in the 2018 Rock Your School event.
Five new board members have now begun their 4-year term of service on the Jackson-Madison County School Board. Doris Black, James (Pete) Johnson, Morris Merriweather, Shannon Stewart, and A.J. Massey were sworn in at a ceremony on Thursday, September 13th.
