• Andrew Jackson House System

Andrew Jackson Elementary School has chosen to implement a house system with each student and faculty member assigned to one of five houses after our phenomenal visit to The Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.  Within the first weeks of school, all students will be sorted into their houses and taught Ron Clark’s Essential 55. Each house will get a chance throughout the year to do team-building activities, create cheers, and songs.

The purpose of the House system is to further promote good behavior, community, partnership and participation in school. The House system aims to do this by providing House members with enjoyable and competitive House events and House activities. Such events/activities take the form of inter-House competitions, House challenges and extra-curricular visits. In all aspects of the House system participation is rewarded as each House seeks to build its own identity and develop a collaborative House and whole school ethos. The House system operates together with the curriculum and character building at school to provide opportunities for pupils to develop the skills, experiences and attributes required to become well rounded, confident, and college career ready individuals.

The House System organization and leadership team consists of its own leadership team consisting of a Teacher House Captain and a 5th grade HOUSE CO-CAPTAIN who will serve as leaders and spokespersons for the house. There will be new captains and co-captains each year.

Students can earn HOUSE POINTS. These can be earned by participation in extracurricular activities, excellent classroom performance or effort, community service, exhibiting the pillars of character, or any other positive contribution to elementary school life. Points are earned in increments of 2. Any staff member can give points. Once earned, they cannot be lost. Students can also earn points for their parents’ attendance at parent night activities. Extra points can be made every nine-weeks based on grades.
