While our focus is on implementing strong core curriculum across all schools, the Jackson-Madison County School System is home to several academic programs and schools that have a specific focus for their learning.
Community Montessori School
The public Montessori program, which has existed in Jackson since 1992, moved to 716 Westwood Avenue as Community Montessori School in 2016. At CMS, staff and students focus on valuing our local and global worlds and living peaceful and sustainable lives. Their school follows a distinctly Montessori approach. Admission to Community Montessori is through the open enrollment lottery.
Jackson Academic STEAM Academy
In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and recognizing the need to provide educational options and opportunities with flexibility for scheduling and pacing to meet the learning needs of all students, Jackson-Madison County Schools proposed JMC CyberSchool in July 2020 as part of the District’s Continuous Learning Plan as a “school-within-a-school” program model.
Our Cyber teachers received on-the-job training throughout the 2020-2021 school year, vetting programs, testing strategies, and working in professional learning groups to share data and improve instructional strategies to create a unique school that meets the needs of Madison County students and families through innovative practices.
The community has responded positively to the idea of a home-based learner-paced online curriculum delivered virtually. As a result, the district formed the Jackson Academic STEAM Academy, or JASA, to open August 2021. STEAM represents Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, which aligns with our vision to prepare students for a technology-driven future.
JCM Early College High School
JCM Early College High School offers students the ability to earn up to 60 college credit hours while taking their required high school classes. Students at JCM Early College High are challenged academically and staff members work closely with students to develop career-readiness skills. Admission to JCM Early College High requires an application and interview process.
Madison Academic Magnet High School

They have several extra-curricular opportunities, including a 15 year State winning Academic Decathlon team, Forensics/Debate, Beta Club and an excellent Fine Arts program. Admission is only lottery based, but a C average (2.0 GPA per semester) is required to maintain enrollment.
