Mr. Michael Morris
A proud product of the Jackson-Madison County Schools system, Mr. Michael Morris attended as a student from elementary through high school. He spent most of his thirty-year professional career as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He is a strong proponent of public education and the opportunities and benefits it gives to students and communities. He began his thirty-year educational career in 1994 at Union City Middle School in Union City, Tennessee, with the Union City Schools System. While there, he taught science and coached girls’ and boys’ basketball. He returned to Jackson in 1998 for the opportunity to teach and coach basketball at his alma mater, Jackson-Central Merry High School. He began his administrative career in 2000 as a Consulting Teacher at Arlington Elementary. Then, he became assistant principal at Northeast Middle School, after which he became principal of Andrew Jackson Intermediate School. Morris also has had the opportunity to be an administrator at the high school level, where he served as an assistant principal at Jackson North Side High School and again at his alma mater Jackson-Central Merry High School. In 2013, Morris also served as the first principal of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High School and the first Principal of Dr. Mae C. Jemison High School. In the fall of 2016, he became Campus Administrator of the Jemison-McNair campus, a new state-of-the-art campus in Huntsville, Alabama. Until his recent appointment for the 24 -25 school year as principal of Jackson Academic STEAM Academy, Mr. Morris served as principal of Northeast Middle School and the Academic Academy School.
Michael Morris's pursuit of knowledge is evident in his academic journey. He earned his Bachelor's degree and Master's in education from the University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, Tennessee. Furthering his education, he obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. His dedication to educational leadership is also reflected in his Educational Specialist degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
The core of his educational philosophy is the unwavering belief that “all children can learn.” This fundamental principle guides his work and underscores his commitment to providing quality education to every student, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Mr. Morris is married and has three children and two grandchildren.
