Dr. Vivian C. Williams

 

Dr. Williams has spent her entire 32-year educational career in the Jackson-Madison County School District. She is a native Jacksonian and a graduate of Jackson Central Merry High School. Dr. Williams continued her education and received her undergraduate degree in secondary education from Lane College, Masters of Education in elementary and special education from the University of Memphis, administrative leadership certification from Freed-Hardeman University and Doctorate in Curriculum and Supervision from Union University in 2004. Additionally, Dr. Williams completed graduate programs in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

 

After spending 10 years as a classroom teacher, Dr. Williams was appointed principal of Whitehall Elementary School and later became principal of Northeast Middle School. Dr. Williams spent 9 years as principal prior to moving to the district office as Leader of Special Education in 2009. During her 11 years at the district office, Dr. Williams has served in several positions including Leader of Special Education & Special Projects, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Student Support and Improvement Officer.

 

Dr. Williams has also worked as an adjunct professor for both the University of Memphis and Union University. She is a life member of the Lane College Alumni Association and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and has a range of professional affiliations including the National Institute of School Leadership, National Academy of Special Education Teachers, National Education Association and the Tennessee Association for Behavior Analysis. She has an enduring commitment to improving educational opportunities for all students. In her spare time, Dr. Williams enjoys writing for publication, reading, traveling and spending time with family.
