Degrees and Certifications:
As the Chief Operating Officer of Jackson-Madison County Schools, Ray Washington oversees the day-to-day operations of the District and its 26 facilities to promote organizational efficiencies and the coordination of all resources.
Prior to joining the district, Mr. Washington spent the previous 15 years working as a commercial banker for Regions Bank in Jackson. He has also served as a financial consultant with Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley) and a manager for Allegiance Healthcare (now Cardinal Healthcare). Allegiance moved Washington and his family to West Tennessee in 1994 from the West Coast where he also worked for Pepsi Cola.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from Virginia State University, Washington enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a lieutenant. After going through boot camp in Parris Island, S.C., Lt. Washington served four years as a Logistics Officer at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He later earned his Master’s in management from Webster University. Washington is also a Certified Treasury Professional.
A native of Hopewell, Va., Washington is an active member of the Jackson community with involvement in various nonprofits. He and his wife of 29 years, Sonya, have three children and one grandchild.
