GreenpowerUSA
GreenpowerUSA is a premier Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program where students build, race, collect data on, and promote their electric cars. Students in grades 9 through 12 participate in a hands-on, project-based learning experience that engages students academically and builds critical employability skills.
In its inaugural year, the JMCSS Greenpower team, Torpedo Racing, was composed of students at JCM Early College High and Madison Academic. Currently, the team has two cars. Since then, each JMCSS middle school received a car kit to race in Greenpower events. The high school district Greenpower team practices at JASA.
Today, Greenpower teams are at the following schools: Community Montessori, JASA, Jackson Careers and Technology School (JCT), Malesus STEM Innovation Center, North Parkway Middle School, Northeast Middle School, and Rose Hill School.
Students apply and interview to participate on their school's Greenpower team. Each student fills a team role in the areas of safety, data, public relations, driving, building, design, and materials management.
Please contact Mr. Dustin Johnson (wdjohnson@jmcss.org), JMCSS District Greenpower Lead, or Dr. Molly Plyler (mmplyler@jmcss.org), District STEM & CS Advisor, if you have any questions.
