Transition School to Work

Jackson Madison County Schools work in collaboration with the Department of Human Services to bring the Transition School to Work (TSW) program to our district.  TSW includes the Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-Ets) Program.  Pre-Ets requires parental permission and is available to all students ages 14-22 with a documented learning or physical disability or a 504 Plan.  Its emphasis is on five key components: job exploration, self-advocacy, post-secondary counseling, work based learning, and work readiness skills.  Workplace Readiness Specialists implement the transition curriculum in group settings at all middle and high schools in the district.

When a student prepares to exit high school, Transition School to Work then focuses on the provision of vocational rehabilitation (VR) services to those who are interested in employment after leaving high school.  Students can participate in job shadowing, job sampling and internships at local businesses.   The goal is a smooth, seamless transition from high school to post-high school career development and/or employment.
