Two JMCSS Campuses Recognized Among Nation’s Healthiest Schools

Arlington Elementary and Community Montessori School both received national recognition as healthy schools this week by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.  Only 16 schools in Tennessee received this important recognition.

“The students, staff and administration at Community Montessori and Arlington have embraced the concept of ‘health is academic’,” said Annette Wilson, Coordinated School Health Administrator. “By creating a healthier school environment, students are educated on the importance of healthy habits that last a lifetime. These schools are making great strides in connecting health and academics.”

In order to be eligible for recognition, schools must meet certain criteria, including over 60 minutes each week of Physical Education, strong school wellness teams, strong staff wellness at both schools, and ensuring that physical activity is not being used as a punishment. The hard work at both of these schools shows their dedication to supporting their students with a healthy foundation that encourages them to be better learners.
