New Beginnings: Jackson-Madison County Welcomes Dr. King

Jackson-Madison County School System staff, educators, and community leaders provided a formal welcome for new superintendent Dr. Marlon King on Wednesday, July 1. Representatives from the Jackson-Madison County School Board and the Madison County Commission were in attendance.

“He’s a man who has a vision and a definite passion for our district,” JMCSS school board member A.J. Massey said.

Wednesday was Dr. King’s first official day as superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County School System. Dr. King addressed the crowd that gathered to attend the outdoor ceremony. “My word is my covenant. I was taught that,” Dr. King said. “We’re leaving principals in place. We’re going to work together and we’re going to move forward to provide the best options and opportunities for these students."

City of Jackson Mayor Scott Conger and Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris were also in attendance. The event was covered by several local media outlets. Click the links below to see their coverage of the event.
