Amerigroup Donates Computers to JMCSS Students

JACKSON, Tenn. – Amerigroup recently donated 200 computers across the state of Tennessee to help students with virtual learning as the new school year approaches. As a part of this initiative, ten students at JCM Early College High School received Chromebooks that they will be able to use in their classes at Jackson State Community College this fall. According to JCM ECH principal Nathan Lewis, these students will be transitioning to dual enrollment classes this Fall as part of the unique Early College program. Having computers will allow these students to participate in online classes and learn valuable skills about preparing to work in a technology-driven marketplace.

“Being a recipient [of the free Chromebook] was an honor and a surprise,” says Kyra Donald, an 11th grade student among the recipients. “I plan to use it daily for future classes and to get a jump start on applying to colleges.”

During the shifting landscape of K-12 and higher education this spring where many classes suddenly had to move online, access to a computer became a great and sudden need. JMCSS continues to plan for our “New Normal” Initiative and look at ways to support the needs of our students as we return in the fall. We are thankful for this community partnership and the opportunity through Amerigroup to present computers to a few students who need them.
