North Side alum returns to lead Tribe following stint at Liberty Tech

JACKSON, Tenn. - Who says you can’t go home? Aaron Woods, a 2002 graduate of North Side High School, has been selected to succeed Tony Brown as head coach of the North Side boys basketball team.

“I’m looking forward to connecting with the students and staff. I’m striving to make an impact not only in athletics, but academically as well,” Woods said.

Wood began his coaching career in Mississippi at Durant High School in 2014. He coached girls and boys basketball at the time. Coach Woods was a three-time District Coach of the Year after a string of success that included three district championships and six region tournament appearances. He returned to Jackson in 2017 to coach the girls basketball team at Liberty Tech. He added boys basketball to his responsibilities shortly thereafter.

“Coach Woods is a dynamic young leader in this district. His efforts in athletics, along with his Teacher of the Year accolades, make him a wonderful example for our student-athletes to emulate. He will be an asset on the North Side campus,” Superintendent Dr. Marlon King said.

An inaugural member of the Superintendent’s Teacher Cabinet , Woods played college basketball at Bethel University and Rust College. He completed his undergraduate degree at Belhaven University and his graduate degree at Arkansas State University. Woods is completing his Ed.D through Walden University.
