Mrs. Jamie Pledger, Computer Teacher and Technology Teacher Leader
Technology at Thelma Barker
The faculty and students at Barker use technology at all grade levels as tools to enhance and improve student learning.
Every classroom is equipped with two or three wireless touch screen computers as well as an interactive projector and Promethean board so teachers visually can instruct the entire class at one time. The majority of classrooms also have student laptops and desktop computers. Thelma Barker also has mobile laptop carts that are used weekly in every classroom to provide a 1:1 technology setting with our students. We also have wireless internet throughout the entire building.
For our parents and students, JMCSS uses PowerSchool to provide access to grades, homework and other school information.
Thelma Barker is unique in that we have a technology teacher that is available to the entire school. Every other week, all students attend computer class for 55 minutes with our computer teacher, Mrs. Pledger. The computer classes at Barker are much more than just educational game time.
Mrs. Pledger works with grade-level chairs to make sure computer classes are an extension of the classroom. During class with Mrs. Pledger, the students use a variety of online tools and sites to correlate to the standards being taught in the classroom. Some of the students' favorite sites are Nearpod and Kahoot!
Lessons with Mrs. Pledger are curriculum-based, integrating classroom content and technology skills, and of course, always fun!
