“If an individual wishes to address the Board during the public comments portion of a regular board meeting regarding an item on the agenda, he/she may sign up on the form provided before the beginning of the board meeting to request time to speak. Remarks are limited to three (3) minutes.”
About the Board

The Jackson-Madison County School Board is made up of nine members who are elected to a four-year term representing the district in which they reside. The Superintendent of schools serves as secretary to the board. The Jackson-Madison County School Board sets all policies and procedures for the 26 schools in the system and is affiliated with the Tennessee School Board Association.
Any questions relating to the operation of the school system may be appealed to the Board, after pursuing all appropriate administrative channels. Individuals or groups, represented by one individual, may address the Board at a regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Remarks will be limited to three minutes with placement on the agenda arranged in advance through the superintendent’s office by calling 731-664-2503.

Public Comments at a Board Work Session or a Combined Work Session and Board Meeting
A member of the public may speak during the public comments portion of the Work Session or of the Combined Work Session and Board Meeting. Public Comments during the meeting shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes. Speakers will comply with the following guidelines:
- Remarks will be limited to three (3) minutes unless time is extended by the Board.
- Each person speaking shall state his/her name, address, and subject of presentation.
- Delegations must select only one individual to speak on their behalf unless otherwise determined by the Board.
- Remarks must pertain to school business.
- No interrogation of Board Members.
- No public derogatory statement about individuals (Superintendent, Board Members, teachers, staff, etc.).
- No personal attacks.
- The chair shall have the authority to terminate the remarks of any individual who is disruptive or does not adhere to Board rules.
- Members of the Board and the Director of Schools may have the privilege of asking questions of any person who addresses the board.

Appearing Before the Board at a Regular Board Meeting
A member of the public must submit a written request with descriptive materials to the office of the Director of Schools ten (10) working days before the meeting. This information must be approved by the Director of Schools and the Board Chairperson.

School Board Meeting Schedule
School Board Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Occasionally, meeting dates will be changed by board action and special meetings will be called from time to time. We try to keep our website up to date with meeting details as well. Please call 731-664-2503 to confirm meeting dates and times.

A member of the public must submit a written request with descriptive materials to the director of schools or the committee chairperson at least two (2) working days before the committee meeting. This information must be approved by the Director of Schools and Committee Chairperson.
